A Case on Art Therapy for Improvement of Upper Extremity Functionin and Self-esteem for Patient with Post-stroke Hemiplegi

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine how much an art therapy is influential on the improvement of Upper Extremity Functioning and self-esteem of Patient with post-Stroke hemiplegia. The subject is a man in late fifties, reported to have hemiplegia and shows passive and low self-esteem. To achieve such goals, researcher conducted Art Therapy. Its had been performed totally 12 periods in 50 minutes a weeks which can improve Upper Extremity Functioning and self-esteem. MFT and self-esteem tests were conducted to testify the effect of art therapy Pre-post implementation. AS a result, The score was improved the MFT of the upper limb motion and grip and finger operation. In self-esteem test, it showed more positive change in post test than that of pre test. Also, on each stage of the early, middle and final, he could have positiveness, use fine motor and minimized frustration through art therapy. As well as, the acceptance of their situation through the exploration of non-healthy hand side. Self positive messages showed that gave a positive effect on upper extremity function and self-esteem. Therefore, the programs of this study showed a clear effect improvement of upper extremity functioning and self-esteem of patients with post-stroke hemiplegia.
